How to measure up
Getting your measurements right is the single best way to avoid ordering too little (or too much). Here's the simple version:
Walls
- Measure the width and height of the wall in metres and multiply them for the area in m².
- Add up multiple walls if you're panelling more than one.
- Don't subtract small windows or sockets: the offcuts help with alignment.
- Add roughly 10% to your total for cuts, trims and the odd mistake.
Floors
- Measure the room's length × width for the floor area in m². For L-shaped rooms, split it into rectangles and add them up.
- Add 10% for cutting and pattern matching (a little more for diagonal or herringbone layouts).

Choosing wall panels
Acoustic slat panels add warmth, texture and a touch of sound dampening to a room. When choosing a finish, think about the light in your space: warmer oak tones feel cosy, while greys and darker ashes read more contemporary.

Choosing flooring
Pick a floor for how the room is used. Busy hallways, kitchens and homes with pets or kids want a durable, easy-clean finish; bedrooms can go softer and warmer underfoot. Lighter tones make a small room feel bigger, while richer woods add character to larger spaces.
Check whether your chosen floor needs underlay and whether your subfloor is level and dry before you start. Explore the flooring range, whether that’s LVT, SPC or laminate, and add acoustic underlay at the same time.
Fitting basics
- Acclimatise first. Let flooring and panels sit in the room for 24–48 hours so they adjust to its temperature and humidity.
- Prep the surface. Walls and subfloors should be clean, dry and level. Fix any obvious bumps or damp before you begin.
- Plan your layout. Dry-lay a row or two first to check the look and how cuts fall at the edges.
- Leave expansion gaps around the edges of floors where recommended, then cover with trim or beading.

Care & maintenance
- Sweep or vacuum regularly to keep grit off the surface.
- Clean with a barely-damp mop or cloth, avoid soaking floors or using harsh abrasives.
- Use felt pads under furniture and mats at doorways to protect the finish.
- Wipe spills promptly rather than letting them sit.
